The Director General of Heritage, Culture and Handicrafts of East Azerbaijan stressed the need to establish a special tourism commission at the Iranian Embassy in the Republic of Azerbaijan, focusing on the northwestern provinces of the country.
Ahmad Hamzehzadeh, in a meeting with the new Iranian Ambassador to the Republic of Azerbaijan, noted that the largest number of foreign tourists in East Azerbaijan are tourists from the Republic of Azerbaijan. "The Republic of Azerbaijan is the second country whose tourists are Iran, especially East Azerbaijan," he said. They choose the travel destination.
He added: "Before the outbreak of the Corona virus, East Azerbaijan hosted over 250,000 tourists from the Republic of Azerbaijan and Nakhchivan."
Emphasizing the need to pay attention to the tourism sector and define joint mechanisms in the Iranian embassy in the Republic of Azerbaijan, he said: "Considering that Iran, especially East Azerbaijan, is of interest to tourists from Azerbaijan, so the establishment of a joint tourism commission focusing on the northwestern provinces." It is essential for the development and prosperity of the tourism industry.
Hamzehzadeh continued: "In the past years, Tabriz was known as a health tourism destination for the people of the Republic of Azerbaijan, but due to the change in the medical referral system of this country, unfortunately the number of health tourists from the Republic of Azerbaijan to Tabriz decreased. The Islamic Republic of Iran to the referral system of the Republic of Azerbaijan and consequently the growth of health tourism in the province.
Citing the public relations of the General Directorate of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts of the province, he stressed the need to pay attention to the global registration of tangible and intangible joint works between the two countries, stating that holding tourism exhibitions and joint cultural weeks can be one of the embassy's support priorities.
He said: "Some intangible historical heritages such as the skill of making and playing romantic music and tangible historical heritages such as historical stairs located in the border strip that have a common historical history between the two countries are among the capacities that are exchanged and coordinated by the embassy." Necessary measures can be taken to register them in the World Heritage List.
