Lt General Raghu Srinivasan Takes Over As Border Roads Organisation Chief

Lieutenant General Raghu Srinivasan assumed charge as the 28th director general (DG) of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) on Saturday, the Defence Ministry said. His appointment to the top post in the BRO follows the superannuation of Lt Gen Rajeev Chaudhry. Prior to his appointment as the 28th DG of the BRO, the general officer was holding the appointment of Commandant, College of Military Engineering, Pune, the ministry said in a statement. Anti-Terror Agency Raids 5 Places In Poonch Over Rajouri Terror Attack

The National Investigation Agency, or NIA, raided the premises of several suspects in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district today in connection with a Lashkar-e-Taiba attack that killed seven civilians in Rajouri district's Dhangri village earlier this year, an official said. The raids happened at five locations across the Gursai village of Mendhar tehsil in Poonch based on information from two arrested accused, a spokesperson for the anti-terror agency said. The agency arrested Nisar Ahmad alias Haji Nisar and Mushtaq Hussain on August 31. They are currently lodged in Central Jail, Kot Bhalwal, Jammu. Southwest Monsoon Withdraws From Delhi: Weather Department IMD

The India Meteorological Department said today that the southwest monsoon has receded from Delhi, with the city receiving above normal rains during the season. According to IMD data, the Safdarjung Observatory, the primary weather station of Delhi, received 660.8 mm of precipitation against a normal of 653.6 mm during the monsoon season (June to September). Normally, the monsoon begins in the national capital by June 27 and recedes by September 25. This year, the rain-bearing system embraced the city on June 25. "The southwest monsoon has further withdrawn from some parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand; entire Punjab and Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi; some parts of west Uttar Pradesh, west Madhya Pradesh and east Rajasthan and some more parts of west Rajasthan today," the IMD said in a statement. 2 Terrorists Killed During Infiltration Attempt Along Line Of Control

Two terrorists were killed after an infiltration attempt was thwarted by security forces along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir this morning. The incident occurred in Machil sector of Kupwara district. Two AK rifles and ammunition were recovered from the operation site, said Yogul Manhas, Senior Superintendent of Police, Kupwara. Passengers Stuck At Jammu Railway Station After Farmers Protest In Punjab

A large number of passengers, many of them pilgrims, were stranded at Jammu and Katra railway stations on Friday as seven trains were cancelled and 13 diverted due to a "rail roko" agitation by farmers in different parts of Punjab. Members of several farmers' bodies began their three-day agitation on Thursday to press their demands such as a financial package for losses caused by recent floods, legal guarantee to minimum support price (MSP) and debt waiver. As part of the protest, farmers squatted on train tracks in many places, including Moga, Hoshiarpur, Gurdaspur, Jalandhar, Tarn Taran, Sangrur, Patiala, Ferozepur, Bathinda and Amritsar. Amid Fight Against Terror, J&K Police Faces Major Manpower Shortage

The Jammu and Kashmir police is facing a major manpower shortage due to delayed recruitment of constables and frontline officers. Dilbag Singh, the Director General of J&K police, has voiced his concern over the impact of manpower shortage in the police department as no recruitment has been done over the past four years. According to Mr Singh, more than 4,000 posts of police constables are vacant, and J&K Services Selection Board (JKSSB), the agency that's entrusted to conduct recruitment exams, has failed to undertake the process. 4 Including 2 Cops Killed As Vehicle Falls Into Gorge In J&K

A special police officer (SPO) and policeman were killed and two others were injured when their vehicle skidded off the road and fell into a gorge in Jammu and Kashmir's Ramban district on Wednesday, officials said. The accident took place near a dam at Chanderkote, they said. Army, Air Force Asked To Give Rs 1.5 Crore To Ex Officer Who Contracted HIV

The Supreme Court on Tuesday directed both the Indian Army and the Indian Air Force to pay Rs 1.54 crore in compensation for their medical negligence to the ex-Air Force officer who contracted HIV/AIDS during a blood transfusion in 2002. A bench of Justice Ravindra Bhat and Dipankar Datta held that medical negligence by Army and Air Force led to a former officer contracting HIV/AIDS during a blood transfusion and issued some guidelines for government, courts, tribunals, commissions and quasi-judicial bodies etc. under the framework of the HIV Act, 2017. "The appellant is entitled to compensation calculated at 1,54,73,000 rupees on account of medical negligence of the respondents who are held liable for injuries suffered by him. Terror Module Busted In Jammu And Kashmir, 2 Women, Minor Among 6 Arrested

Two women and a juvenile are among six terrorist operatives arrested during a fresh crackdown on terrorists and their support network in Jammu and Kashmir's Baramulla district, police said. The operation was jointly carried out by the Army and Jammu and Kashmir police. Police said a cache of arms and ammunition including three pistols and five hand grenades have been recovered from the arrested people.   “Six people have been arrested. As many as 177 Ayushman Bharat cards are made and 30 hospital admissions undertaken per minute under the Centre's flagship scheme for providing health insurance, the Union Health Ministry said on Monday. Kashmir Parts Receive Snow And Rainfall, More Showers Predicted

Snowfall in the higher reaches of Kashmir and rains in the plains have ended a prolonged dry spell and brought down the minimum temperature significantly in the valley, officials said on Monday. Snowfall was recorded in higher reaches of south Kashmir, including around the cave shrine of Amarnath and Gulmarg in north Kashmir, the officials said. Moderate rains lashed most parts of the valley with Srinagar city recording 18.3 mm rainfall till 8.30 am on Monday. The precipitation has brought down the temperature significantly with the minimum temperature in Srinagar settling at 10.8 degrees Celsius on Sunday night, down from 13 degrees Celsius a night earlier. Terror Module Busted In Jammu And Kashmir, 5 Lashkar Terrorists Arrested

In a joint operation by the Jammu and Kashmir police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), a terror module was busted in Jammu and Kashmir's Kulgam district with the arrest of five terrorists of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terror outfit, an official statement said on Sunday.  A huge quantity of arms and ammunition including two pistols, three Hand Granedes, one UBGL, two pistol magezines, 12 poistol rounds, and 21 AK-47 rounds was recovered from their posession, the statement added.  As per the statement, the arrested terrorists were identified as Aadil Hussain Wani, Suhail Ahmad Dar, Aitmad Ahmad Laway, Mehraj Ahmad Lone and Sabzar Ahmad Khaar.  A case has been registered in this regard under the relevant sections of law.  Further investigation is underway.  More details are awaited. Police on Thursday got an input that a person identified as Yaseen Ahmad Shah, Baramulla's Janbazpora, is missing from his home and has joined the proscribed terror outfit LeT/TRF, a police spokesperson said. The Resistance Front (TRF) is believed to be a shadow outfit of the LeT. The spokesperson said that a case in this regard was registered at the Baramulla Police Station and an investigation was taken up. On receipt of this information, a joint team of the security forces set up a checkpoint at Tapper Pattan in the north Kashmir district and apprehended Shah, the spokesperson said. 75% Villages Declared Open Defecation Free Plus: Union Minister

About 4.4 lakh or 75 per cent of India's villages have achieved the open defecation free-plus status, Jal Shakti minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat said on Saturday. An 'ODF Plus' village is one which has sustained its Open Defecation Free (ODF) status along with implementing either solid or liquid waste management systems. Addressing media persons, Mr Shekhawat said over 4.43 lakh villages so far have declared themselves ODF Plus, which is a significant step towards achieving the goals of the second phase of the Swachh Bharat Mission Gramin by 2024-25. He added that all villages in 14 states and Union Territories (UT) have achieved ODF Plus Status, of which four have been declared 'ODF Plus Model'.
