Terrorist Killed In Encounter In Jammu And Kashmir's Pulwama

An unidentified terrorist was killed in an encounter with security forces in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir, officials said on Friday. A gun battle broke out at New Colony in Arihal area of the district on Thursday after security forces launched an anti-militancy operation in the orchards there, the officials said. One terrorist was shot dead as the operation continued, officials said. Ready To Hold Assembly Polls In J&K Whenever Poll Body Wants: LG Sinha

Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Thursday said his administration is ready to hold assembly polls in the Union Territory whenever the Election Commission of India directs it to do so. Taking a swipe at certain political leaders for spreading misinformation about elections, LG Sinha said he would leave Jammu and Kashmir only after successfully conducting the assembly polls. Lashkar Module Busted In Jammu And Kashmir, 2 Terror Operatives Arrested

Security forces on Thursday busted a Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) module in Jammu and Kashmir's Kupwara district and arrested two terror associates, officials said. "The police along with teams of the Army and CRPF busted a terror module of LET/TRF and recovered arms from Tutigund forest on the disclosure of terror associates Pervaiz Ahmad Dar and Showkat Ahmad Shergujri," they said. The officials said a case has been registered in this regard at the Handwara police station. Posting Disharmonious Content On Social Media To Be Criminalised In J&K

Posting any content on social media that promotes disharmony will be a criminal offence in Jammu and Kashmir, DGP R R Swain said on Thursday. A new provision under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) will be introduced into the effect, the J&K director general of police said. Posting such messages or videos by "terrorists, separatists or anti-national elements" will be a crime, Mr Swain said. "Under (Section)144 CrPC, we have decided to bring a law on the posting of any type of content - message, video, audio - which will instigate communal disharmony and terrorise or threaten anyone. "Whether they are terrorists, separatists, or anti-national elements, posting such messages and videos will be a crime as per the law," Mr Swain told reporters in Jammu. Government Lists 18 Bills For Winter Session Of Parliament

The government on Wednesday listed 18 bills, including two to extend provisions of the women's reservation act to Jammu and Kashmir and Puducherry and three to replace the criminal laws, during the Winter Session of Parliament beginning next week. According to a bulletin issued by the Lok Sabha Secretariat, the government also plans to bring a bill that seeks to increase the strength of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly from 107 to 114 in a bid to provide representation to Kashmiri migrants, displaced persons from Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir and Scheduled Tribes. Besides the bills, the government has listed the first batch of supplementary demands for grants for the year 2023-24 for presentation, discussion and voting during the session. 20 Blocks Of Critical Minerals, Worth Rs 45,000 Crore, Put Up For Auction

In a bid to address potential supply chain vulnerabilities for materials like lithium, cobalt and titanium, the Centre launched the first tranche of the Critical and Strategic Minerals Auction on Wednesday. A total of 20 blocks have been put up for auction and their combined value is estimated to be Rs 45,000 crore, Union Minister of Mines Pralhad Joshi said.  The 20 blocks are located in Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Jharkhand, Bihar, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Chattisgarh and Jammu and Kashmir, and composite licences will be issued for 16 of them, while mining licences will be given for the remaining four. Exploration is allowed under composite licences. The bidder will be selected based on the highest percentage of royalty rates quoted by them. Sale of tender documents will begin on Wednesday itself, and Mr Joshi encouraged prospective bidders to apply. Arms, Ammunition Recovered In Jammu and Kashmir's Kupwara, 2 Arrested

Two persons were apprehended on Monday after arms and ammunition were recovered in the Kupwara district, according to an official statement issued by the Indian Army. Indian Army said that under Operation GUSHI, a Mobile Vehicle Interception Post (MVIP) was established at Gushi Bridge in Kupwara. In a post on X, the Chinar Corps of the Indian Army said, "In a Joint Operation launched by the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police on specific intelligence, a Mobile Vehicle Interception Post (MVIP) was established today at Gushi Bridge at Kupwara where two suspected individuals were apprehended." Seven university students have been arrested under the stringent anti-terror law for celebrating India's defeat in the cricket World Cup finals and raising pro-Pakistan slogans in Jammu and Kashmir. The seven accused, students of the Sher-e-Kashmir Agriculture University, were charged with Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). A police case was filed based on another student's complaint that the accused threatened a non-local student and raised pro-Pakistan slogans. A large number of people paid their last respects to Captain M V Pranjal, who was killed during an encounter with terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir, amid poignant scenes. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday forecasted light snowfall and rainfall in Jammu and Kashmir as a result of a western disturbances. The weather department also said that thunderstorms and hailstorms are likely in central India until November 26-27 due to an oncoming western disturbance. Speaking to IMD scientist Soma Sen Roy said, "Western disturbance is around 55 degrees. This same western disturbance will cause light snowfall and rainfall in Jammu & Kashmir. Opposition Granted Time To Reply To Plea Against Use Of INDIA Acronym

The Delhi High Court on Wednesday granted time to several opposition parties to respond to a petition to restrain them from using the acronym INDIA (Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance). A bench headed by Acting Chief Justice Manmohan also granted time to the Centre to file its reply to the public interest litigation which alleged that by using INDIA acronym, the parties were taking "undue advantage in the name of our country". All 29 Under-Construction Tunnels Across India To Be Checked For Safety

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) will undertake a safety audit of all 29 under-construction tunnels across the country to ensure safety and adherence to highest quality standards, an official statement said on Wednesday. The statement by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) comes in the backdrop of collapse of under-construction Silkyara Tunnel in Uttarkashi on November 12. "NHAI officials, along with a team of experts from Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) as well as other tunnel experts, will inspect the ongoing tunnel projects and will submit a report within seven days," the statement said. Four government employees in Jammu and Kashmir have been fired for alleged involvement in pro-separatist activities. Assistant Professor (Medicine), SMHS Hospital Srinagar, Nisar-ul-Hassan, Constable Abdul Majeed Bhat, Laboratory bearer in Higher Education Department Abdul Salam Rather, and teacher in Education Department Farooq Ahmad Mir were dismissed in accordance with Article 311 of the Constitution of India, the administration said. Article 311 of the Constitution states that an official may be sacked if, "the President or the Governor, as the case may be, is satisfied that in the interest of the security of the State, it is not expedient to hold such inquiry." Petrol Prices Highest In Rajasthan Because Of State Taxes: Minister

Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri on Saturday alleged that the price of petrol in Rajasthan was the highest in the country because of taxes imposed by the Congress government in the state. In the last two years, the Rajasthan government has collected tax of Rs 35,975 crore on petrol and diesel till November 2021-22 and 2022-23, Puri said, according to a statement issued after a press conference at the BJP state media centre here. When the tax collection in Rajasthan is compared to that in 18 states and union territories, it is very high, the minister said. The tax collection of these 18 states and union territories, including Delhi, Uttarakhand, Nagaland, Lakshadweep, Manipur, Ladakh, Daman and Diu, Jammu and Kashmir, is Rs 32,597 crore, he said, according to the statement. Kashmir Editor Arrested For "Terror Conspiracy" Gets Bail After 21 Months

The High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh has quashed several charges including that of terror conspiracy against an editor of a news portal while granting him bail after 21 months in jail.
