BJP Leader Devender Singh Rana Dies At 59

Senior BJP leader and Nagrota MLA Devender Singh Rana, brother of Union minister Jitendra Singh, died on Thursday at a private hospital in Haryana's Faridabad. He was 59. According to a senior BJP leader, Rana was undergoing treatment at the hospital. He is survived by his wife, Gunjan Rana, their daughters Devyani and Ketki, and son Adhiraj Singh. As the news of Rana's death spread, hundreds of people, including political leaders, gathered at his residence in the Gandhinagar area of Jammu. Union Minister Jitendra Singh also rushed to his house. Rana, who turned to politics from business as he built a multi-crore business from scratch, was a strong voice for Jammu's Dogra community. 1 Soldier Dead, 13 Injured After Army Vehicle Skids Off Road In J&K

An army soldier was killed and 13 people, including nine army personnel, were injured when their Army vehicle skidded off the road and overturned in Jammu and Kashmir's Kulgam district, officials said on Saturday. The injured, which included four civilians, were taken to a hospital where their condition is stated to be stable, they said. The accident in Kulgam's D H Pora area happened during an operational move on Friday night, said the Army's Srinagar-based 15 Corps, also known as Chinar Corps. "Tragically, one sepoy lost his life, while few soldiers sustained injuries who were promptly evacuated for medical care. All soldiers are stable," the Chinar Corps said. Train Hits 6 Kg Piece Of Wood On Tracks In UP, Sabotage Suspected

A passenger train hit a thick piece of wood kept on the tracks on Thursday night in what is being suspected as a sabotage in Uttar Pradesh again. The incident comes a month after an empty gas cylinder was found on the tracks near Prempur railway station in UP's Kanpur, and 10 detonators were found on a railway track in an attempt to blow up a train carrying army personnel in Madhya Pradesh's Burhanpur district. Train No. 14236 Bareilly-Varanasi Express running between Delhi and Lucknow hit the two-feet-long piece of wood weighing over 6 kg and dragged it for some distance. It got wedged under the metal wheels, officials said. The train driver, or the loco pilot, managed to stop the train safely, they said. The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Wednesday released the photographs of two foreign terrorists involved in the Sunday terrorist attack on a workers' camp in the Ganderbal district, leaving seven people dead and several others injured. The photographs were developed from footage recorded by CCTV cameras installed inside the camp in Gagangir area in Ganderbal. The police had said earlier that two foreign terrorists had entered the workers' camp in the evening and fired indiscriminately at civilians. Seven people, including six non-local workers and a local doctor were killed in the attack, and four others were injured. Investigators have already questioned over 40 people in connection with the terrorist attack. A new genus and snake species discovered in the Himalayas has been named after the Academy Award-winning Hollywood actor Leonardo DiCaprio - the "Titanic" star who is also a passionate environmentalist, officials said on Tuesday. A doctor from Kashmir and six non-local labourers were killed while five people sustained injuries in the terror attack at an under-construction tunnel at Gund on Sunday. Gurmeet Singh, 45, hailed from village Sakhowal in Punjab's Gurdaspur district and had been working in a company as a construction worker. "He was speaking to his wife over a mobile phone when this incident took place... He told his wife that he had been hit by a bullet," said Gurmeet's father Dharam Singh. 6 Construction Workers, Doctor Killed In "Dastardly" Terror Attack In J&K

Six construction workers and a doctor were killed in a terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Ganderbal district last night. The terrorists opened fire on a camp housing workers of a private company, who were building a tunnel. The area has been cordoned off by the army and police and a hunt is on to find the terrorists. Both locals and non-locals were present at the campsite and at least two terrorists opened gunfire. The victims were identified as Dr Shahnawaz, a resident of Nayidgam Kashmir's Budgam, Gurmeet Singh from Punjab's Gurdaspur, Mohammad Haneef, Faheem Nasir, a safety manager, and Kaleem, were from Bihar, Anil Kumar Shukla, a mechanical manager from Madhya Pradesh, and Shashi Abrol, a designer from Jammu.
