1.25 Million Tourists In 2024 So Far - Kashmir To Set New Record

Tourist arrivals in Kashmir are set to break all previous records as more than 1.25 million tourists have already come here to date this year. Officials of the local tourism department have said that over 12.5 lakh tourists have so far visited Kashmir and going by the present trend, the year 2024 is likely to break all previous records. At present, all local hotels in Srinagar city, in the ski resort of Gulmarg and the hill stations of Pahalgam and Sonamarg are completely sold out till the middle of June. Army-Cops Clash In J&K's Kupwara, Case Against 16 Including 3 Lt Colonels

Jammu and Kashmir police have filed a case against 16 army soldiers, including three officers, for assaulting policemen at a police station in Kupwara district. Five police personnel, including the Station House Officer, were injured in the incident, official sources said. A video purportedly showing the soldiers storming inside the police station late Tuesday evening was widely shared on social media. The army has denied assaulting the cops and termed it an incident of "minor differences". "The reports of altercation between police and army personnel and beating of police personnel are mis-founded and incorrect. Severe Heatwave Sweeps North India As Mercury Breaches 50 Degree Mark

Large parts of northern and central India were in the grip of extreme heatwave conditions on Tuesday with the mercury crossing 50 degrees Celsius in Rajasthan's Churu and Haryana's Sirsa and settling nine notches above normal in Delhi. At least three weather stations in Delhi recorded maximum temperatures of 49 degrees Celsius or more. Mungeshpur and Narela in Delhi clocked 49.9 degrees followed by Najafgarh at 49.8 degrees Celsius, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said. This was the highest maximum temperature recorded in the capital this season. However, Mungeshpur and Narela weather stations came up in 2022 and have records only for the last three years. The IMD said respite from the heatwave conditions could be in sight after May 30. It said that a fresh western disturbance was expected over parts of northwest India on Thursday which could bring isolated rainfall over the region on the weekend. The Election Commission on Monday said Jammu and Kashmir recorded the highest voter turnout in a Lok Sabha poll in last 35 years, with the Kashmir Valley witnessing a "massive" 30 points jump in poll participation compared to 2019. "This active participation is a huge positive for the assembly elections to be held soon so that the democratic process continues to thrive in the Union Territory," said Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar while responding to the turnout. J&K's Anantnag-Rajouri Seat "Shatters" Turnout Record With 53% Polling

The Anantnag-Rajouri Lok Sabha seat "shattered" the voter turnout record with 53% of voters exercising their franchise, the highest in 40 years, the Election Commission (EC) said today, adding that a record polling percentage was also logged in Jammu and Kashmir's Srinagar and Baramulla. With this, the three seats in the Kashmir valley - Srinagar (38.49%), Baramulla (59.1%), and Anantnag-Rajouri (53%) - recorded the highest voter turnouts "in many decades", the poll panel said. Multiple social media users shared a video of a mob attacking a man wearing turban, claiming that he was Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann. In its investigation, the Desk found that the man in the video was one Amandeep Singh Boparai, president of an outfit named Yuva Jatt Sabha, who was attacked in Jammu in April this year. The video was shared on social media with a false claim.  Claim An Instagram user shared on May 13 a video of a group of men attacking a man wearing turban and policemen struggling to save him. "No Error": Top Court Rejects Review Petitions Against Article 370 Verdict

The Supreme Court has dismissed a batch of review pleas filed against the Constitution Bench verdict upholding the revocation of Article 370 as valid. "Having perused the review petitions, there is no error apparent on the face of the record. No case for review under Order XLVII, Rule 1 of the Supreme Court Rules 2013. The review petitions are, therefore, dismissed," a bench, headed by CJI D.Y. Chandrachud, said. Further, the 5-judge Bench, also comprising Justices Sanjiv Khanna, B.R. Gavai, Surya Kant, and A.S.
