In a big crackdown on terrorist activities, the Centre has banned 14 mobile messaging applications which were allegedly being used by terror groups, largely in Jammu and Kashmir, to communicate with their supporters and Over Ground Workers (OGW) and also receive instructions from Pakistan, sources said. The banned apps include Crypviser, Enigma, Safeswiss, Wickrme, Mediafire, Briar, BChat, Nandbox, Conion, IMO, Element, Second Line, Zangi, and Threema. The action was taken on the recommendation of security and intelligence agencies. A list of apps that pose a threat to national security and do not follow Indian laws was prepared, and the concerned ministry was informed of the request to ban them. A massive landslide blocked the Srinagar-Jammu national highway in Banihal district, the second to be caught on camera in two days. Former Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik's statement was recorded by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) as a witness today in a case of alleged fraud linked to Reliance General Insurance, people familiar with the matter told NDTV. The National Commission for Women (NCW) chairperson Rekha Sharma on Thursday said human trafficking increased by 15.56 per cent in Jammu and Kashmir last year as compared to the 2021-22 financial year but it is "just the tip of an iceberg". The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway was closed on Thursday after a landslide in Ramban district, leaving over 300 vehicles stranded, officials said. The landslide took place in the Shalgari area of the district, which is being battered by rains, they said Over 300 vehicles are stranded at different points of the 270-km highway, the only all-weather road linking Kashmir with the rest of the country, the officials said. A 35-year-old Army personnel died after he tried to launch a firework from his mouth at a wedding in Madhya Pradesh's Dhar district, police said on Tuesday. The incident took place on Monday night at Jalokhya village under Amjhera police station limits, some 20 km from the district headquarters, an official said. Police rescued more than 300 stranded passengers and took out 60 vehicles from the Sadhna Top in Karnah in Kupwara. The rescue operation was launched Thursday evening by the police, headed by SHO Karnah Inspector Mudasir Ahmad. The timely and prompt assistance provided by the police not only rescued the civilians but also ensured that they reached their destination safely. All the rescued persons appreciated the police who came to their rescue, risking their own lives amidst the avalanche warnings. Following the terror attack on troops in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch that claimed the lives of five soldiers the previous day, the Indian Army has launched a massive operation on Friday to hunt down a group of around six to seven terrorists who are behind this attack. "The Army and security agencies have received inputs about the presence of 6-7 terrorists operating in two groups in the Rajouri-Poonch sector near the area where the incident took place yesterday," defence sources told ANI. A pal of gloom descended at Khandayat Sahi in Odisha's Puri district as the people of the village came to know that a son of the soil was among the five Army personnel killed after their vehicle caught fire following a terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district. A massive cordon and search operation has been launched in Jammu and Kashmirs Poonch district following the terrorist attack on an army truck on Thursday. Five soldiers died and another was seriously injured in the terrorist attack on the military vehicle. Official sources say the truck has been hit by over two dozen bullets from all sides which indicates several terrorists may have been involved in the attack. The vehicle carrying the soldiers - all of them from Rashtriya Rifles unit deployed for counterterror operations - was fired upon by the terrorists at around 3 pm and later caught fire due to a likely grenade attack, the Army said.
