Jammu and Kashmir Administration Transfers 230 Bureaucrats

In a major reshuffle, the Jammu and Kashmir administration has transferred 230 bureaucrats, including two IAS and IFS officers, officials said on Thursday. According to the order issued late Wednesday night, those transferred include 36 special secretary officers, 60 additional secretaries, 85 deputy secretaries and 45 under secretaries. IAS officer Pardeep Kumar has been transferred from Director, Archives, Archaeology and Museums, J-K and posted as secretary in the Forest department. IFS officer Alok Kumar Maurya has been repatriated to the department of Forest, Ecology and Environment from Shri Mata Vaishnodevi Shrine Board. 7 Killed As Vehicle Falls Into Gorge In Jammu And Kashmir

Seven people died on Wednesday when a vehicle they were travelling in skidded off the road and fell into a deep gorge in Jammu and Kashmir's Baramulla district, police said. A passenger vehicle rolled down into a deep gorge in Boniyar area of Uri in the north Kashmir district, they said. Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha expressed grief and announced compensation for the affected families. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Traffic Rural Kashmir, Ravinder Paul Singh, told PTI that seven people died in the accident while seven others sustained injuries. The bodies have been recovered and medico-legal formalities are being conducted, the SSP said. The injured persons have been taken to a hospital in Baramulla, he added. Normal To Above-Normal Rainfall Likely In North India In February

After experiencing a drier-than-usual December and January, north India is expected to see normal to above-normal rainfall in February, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Addressing a press conference on Wednesday, IMD Director General Mrutyunjay Mohapatra said India may cumulatively experience above-normal rainfall in February. Northwest India recorded just 3.1 mm of rainfall in January, the second lowest since 1901, the IMD reported. North India, consisting of seven meteorological subdivisions, is most likely to receive above-normal rainfall (more than 122 per cent of the long-period average) in February. "Monthly rainfall over the country as a whole during February is most likely to be above normal (more than 119 per cent of the long period average)," Mohapatra said. Probe Agency Raids In J&K, Punjab and UP In Bharat Papers Case

The Enforcement Directorate on Wednesday raided locations in Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh in a Rs 200 crore alleged bank loan fraud case linked to the Bharat Papers Ltd. (BPL), official sources said. At least nine premises in these regions are being searched by the central agency under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). Incorporated in September, 2006, the BPL is an associate of the Bharat Box Factory Industries Limited (BBFIL), a paper board packaging industry based in Jammu and Ludhiana. The primary allegations against the company are that its directors have perpetrated a bank loan fraud of about Rs 200 crore with a consortium of banks with lead bank as the State Bank of India. The other banks include J&K Bank, PNB and Karur Vysya Bank. As many as 718 snow leopards were reported as part of the first-ever scientific exercise that was carried out by the Wildlife Institute of India (WII). Union Minister of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change, Bhupender Yadav, released the report during the National Board for Wildlife meeting held in New Delhi on Tuesday. The Snow Leopard Population Assessment in India (SPAI) programme is the first-ever scientific exercise. The Wildlife Institute of India (WII) is the National Coordinator for this exercise which was carried out with support the support of all snow leopard range states and two conservation partners, the Nature Conservation Foundation, Mysuru and WWF-India. Officer, Who Lost Legs During Anti-Maoist Operation, Awarded Shaurya Chakra

CRPF officer Bibhor Kumar Singh, who lost his legs during an Anti-Maoist operation in the forests of Bihar in 2022, has been awarded the Shaurya Chakra on the eve of the 75th Republic Day. He is the lone recipient of a military medal, the third-highest peacetime medal, among the central paramilitary forces. Bibhor Kumar Singh was named for the decoration by the defence ministry in a statement issued on Thursday, a day before the commando-trained officer turns 33. The assistant commandant-rank officer of the 205th CoBRA battalion, who had joined the CRPF in May 2017, suffered grievous injuries in an improvised explosive device blast on February 25, 2022, while his patrol was out in the Chakrabandha forest area in the Gaya and Aurangabad districts of Bihar. President Murmu Approves 80 Gallantry Awards On Republic Day Eve

President Droupadi Murmu on Thursday approved 80 gallantry awards including six Kirti Chakra and 16 Shaurya Chakra on the eve of the 75th Republic Day. Out of the six Kirti Chakra, three were conferred posthumously, and of the 16 Shaurya Chakra, two posthumously. The Kirti Chakra is India's second highest peacetime gallantry award after Ashok Chakra while the Shaurya Chakra is the third highest peacetime. The Jammu and Kashmir administration on Sunday declared a half-day holiday and a 'dry day' on January 22 on the occasion of the Ram temple consecration ceremony in Ayodhya. "It is hereby ordered that half-day public holiday (till 02:30 pm) shall be observed on January 22 in the Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir," an order issued by Commissioner Secretary General Administration Department (GAD) Sanjeev Verma said.
